New Blog

It's been a long time since I've had an active blog. The last iteration was a Wordpress blog that I intermittently posted to from the late 90s through the early 2000s.

After that I was going to roll my own CMS in Laravel as many developer types are wont to do. I actually made a fair amount of progress before I let that project fall by the wayside. Trying to bring it up to date with current Laravel about as exciting as it sounds, although I would like to get back to it someday.

In the meantime, this site has been a literal blank page with metadata to establish my identity in various places, most recently in the Fediverse. That move has rekindled my interest in the indie web and my desire to have a more active web presence (more on that is a future post).

Recently, I've come across a project called Eleventy, a static site generator that has gotten a lot of attention lately. It was fairly easy to set up and has allowed me to get the ball rolling relatively quickly.

So for now, my corner of the web looks very much like a traditional blog, but in the course of researching this, I came across the idea of the digital garden, a more freeform approach to a personal website that appeals to me more than highly structured writing. I may have a few ideas.
